Attendance

Regular school attendance is required by law and is necessary for good scholarship.  A student’s success is directly related to his/her attendance in school.  Parents are strongly encouraged to schedule their child’s necessary appointments outside regular school hours.  Any student arriving late or leaving early must be signed in/out by a designated parent or responsible adult.  We encourage all parents to recognize the value of instructional time. We strongly discourage parents from taking their student out of school for vacations, celebrations, business appointments, etc.

Students who are ill are expected to stay home. Parents and or guardians must call the school office by 10:00 am if their child will be absent.  If the child has a fever, he/she must remain at home until there is no fever for 24 hours.  After an absence of two or more days the parent/guardian may request a list of the missed assignments to be completed at home. The child has two days for every one day absent to complete all missed work.  Requests for missing homework must be made by 10:00 am . Work requested by 10:00 am can be picked up in the office after 3:00 pm .

Excessive Absences

A student who is absent from class 10 times per semester will receive parent notification. A student who is absent from a class 15 or more times a semester may fail the class.

Tardies

Students are expected to be punctual for every class. A tardy student disrupts the class session in progress and misses valuable instructional time.  Therefore, it is the parent’s responsibility to see that the student arrives on time to school. If a student is tardy he or she must report to the school office BEFORE going to class. The secretary will give the student a tardy slip to give to their teacher. Students will not be permitted into the classroom without a tardy slip.  Three tardies in a quarter counts as one absence. Excessive tardies may affect their citizenship grade. Middle School students that receive three tardies in one quarter will be issued an after school detention.

Honor Roll and Conscientious

Cornerstone recognizes outstanding effort and diligence by its students in the areas of Academic Honor Roll and Conscientious Honor Roll. The Honor Roll award requirement for the students is to maintain a 3.75 grade average (cumulative) for the semester. The Conscientious award is given if the student has received 90% of E’s listed under the section called Work Habits/Effort.

Medication

Prescription or over the counter medicine is never to be sent to school with a student. Parents must fill out a special form issued by the school, for medicine to be administered at school. When feasible, students are responsible for coming to the office to receive their medicine

Report Cards

Report cards are given quarterly (every nine weeks), four times a year. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled at the completion of the first quarter. Parents may request a conference with a teacher at any time during the school year. Progress reports are sent out about the fifth week of each quarter, indicating failure or needed improvement in the students’ academic work or in citizenship. This warning notice must be signed by the parent and be returned to the teacher.

Grading Standard:

A             90 - 100 %                   Superior Work

B             80 - 89 %                     Above Average

C             70 - 79 %                     Average

D             60 - 69 %                     Below Average

F             59 % or below               Failing

Cornerstone awards certificates indicating outstanding citizenship and scholastic ability. The Honor Roll award requirement for our students is a 3.75 grade average, cumulative by the semester. The Conscientious (citizenship) award is given if a student has received 90% of E’s listed under the work habits section.
